Hi, I’m Gavin Stephens, the person behind SimplyGeek.

My background is in network engineering, virtualisation and cloud platforms. Over time, my work has moved towards automation and systems integration: connecting APIs, building reusable services and turning infrastructure tasks into code that can be tested and maintained.

Much of this blog follows that journey through VMware technologies, from vSphere and vCloud Director to automation and orchestration. Today, I write about VMware Cloud Foundation, VCF Operations Orchestrator and Ansible, alongside the development practices that make those tools easier to work with.

I’m particularly interested in how automation code is structured. Reusable actions, clear interfaces, consistent validation, useful logging and meaningful tests all feature in my projects. I share the reasoning behind those choices as well as the implementation, so readers can decide what fits their own environment.

AI-assisted development is another part of that work. I’m exploring how repository instructions, reusable skills and focused review agents can help an assistant follow established project conventions. My articles show the prompts, examples and checks involved, including where human judgement is still needed.
